Coming off Refined Sugar With Raspberry Coconut Currant Energy Bites

Around 2 years ago my husband and I decided refined sugar seemed to be ruling our lives and we wanted out. After every meal, we would both reach for something sweet. Not that we would eat huge amounts but it seemed to always be present a craving never really satisfied. Not to mention refined wheat also played a big role which is pretty much sugar.

So we decided we wanted to come off it and we knew it was going to be tough. We were already having sugar cravings and we hadn’t even tried to cut it out.
To make the transition peaceful and enjoyable I started preparing loads of healthy alternatives. Nut butter cookies, homemade fruit popsicles, fruit sweetened banana bread and energy balls. The first two weeks were the hardest and if I was short on time I wouldn’t have a chance to replenish our healthy stock.

Coming home from a long day my husband asked if there was anything in the lunch bag. There happen to be an apple and some rice cakes.
Not the answer he was looking for!
This resulted in an unusual outburst about the need for more food!
“ I need biscuits! I can’t eat like this! I’m a man and I need biscuits!”
Not entirely sure how I should respond to this lack of man food I burst out laughing!
Realising his sugar cravings were speaking for him he also started laughing.

We both had a few days like that but once we were free we were free. No more afternoon slumps or mid-morning snacking. Food seemed to taste better and we had loads of energy. Occasionally we will have a sugary dessert but it has no lustre anymore. There is no greedy cravings or panicked searching in the cupboards for something naughty. If you are thinking about giving it up this raspberry, coconut, currant bites are satisfying and delicious. They really hit the spot for me and my manly husband!
