Did anyone out there have an easy bake oven? Well, I did and it was hours of child baking fun! Basically, it was a plastic oven that plugged in with a heat lamp inside. But I remember sliding slices of apples in on their little tray till they were soft and golden then dusting them with cinnamon and eating them on my bedroom floor.
In memory of that glorious toy and Autumn apples here is an incredibly easy syrup with astonishing flavour!!! The basil adds a green liquorice hum with a hit of vanilla and a citrus sweetness. I think it would probably taste nice on pancakes too.
Basil, Lemon, and Vanilla Syrup
3 Tbsp Lemon juice (approx. 1 lemon)
3 Tbsp maple syrup
touch of vanilla extract, vanilla powder, or paste
small handful of fresh basil leaves
Bring to a very low boil and turn off the heat and allow to steep. Remove leaves and pour over sliced apples and bake till soft and golden.
Save some syrup for after to drizzle over while on the plate. Enjoy.
Store remainder of syrup in the fridge covered.
